Abstract

Since the start of the space age, and until recently, NASA has been the US organization that has led both manned and unmanned space exploration. This talk will cover some of the Leadership Lessons from NASA Mission Control over the last 60 years.

Bio

Ginger Kerrick, MSc

Ginger Kerrick graduated with a BSc and an MSc in physics from Texas Tech University. Her masters thesis was Infrared deep level transient spectroscopy. Ginger is a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Ginger started at NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in 1991 as a materials research engineer. Subsequent roles included the first non-astronaut capsule Communicator (Capcom) and the first Russian training integration instructor. Ginger was a flight director with NASA from 2005 to 2012, the first Latina to do so. Following this role, Ginger worked on the International Space Station and the Artemis program. In 2021, Ginger became Chief Strategy Officer with Barrios Technology, Houston Texas. In this role, she works with NASA in commercial space exploration. Ginger is a passionate supporter of STEM and has been a part time professor at Texas Tech University. Ginger currently serves as Vice Chair of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents. Ginger was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 2016.
